Elementary School Announcement - October 10, 2024
Dear elementary school parents and guardians,
We are finishing up our week with our literacy consultant, who has been on campus working with teachers and students. She will also meet with our faculty during our professional development afternoon time tomorrow, continuing our work on strong student progress.
Our counselors will be offering parents time to discuss selected articles throughout the year, with topics related to social and emotional development of an elementary-aged child. Join for one article, a few, or all of them! The first Article Club will be next Tuesday, with the topic of raising inclusive children. You can find the article here.
Halloween is approaching! All elementary students can wear costumes to school on October 31. The ECC will host a short costume parade at 8:40 (parents are welcome to watch), and Upper Elementary will have a party from 14:30-15:30. Middle School Announcements - October 10, 2024
Dear ASH Middle School Families,
We are excited to announce the launch of Advisory Roundtables this week, an inclusive leadership initiative that brings together student representatives from each advisory group to meet with the principal and teacher leaders. These roundtables provide an opportunity for students to give input, offer feedback, and propose solutions on behalf of their peers. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to step into leadership roles, make their voices heard, and positively impact the middle school experience for all. This week’s agenda included feedback about the start of the year, our lunch structure and general input about the year so far. Stay tuned for how their input impacts changes.
In partnership,
Beth Coyle

News and Notes:
Fall is Here! Lights On!
If your child rides a bike to school, now is the time to check that their lights work and to make sure they are turning them on when it is dark. The cars move fast and it is important for your child’s safety that they ride defensively.
Prevention ED Specialist: Middle and High School Parent Workshop
As part of our ongoing commitment to prevention and wellness, ASH has invited prevention specialist Katie Greeley from Prevention Education to work with High School students and Middle School/High School parents. Prevention Ed will present a parent workshop, for Middle and High School parents, on Thursday 31 of October at 8:45 in the Mezzanine to offer support and guidance in helping your children stay healthy, reduce the risk of making uninformed choices about alcohol and other drugs, and provide parents with the skills they need to set clear expectations and boundaries regarding alcohol and drug use.
Fall Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences - November 11 & 12
Middle School Fall Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences dates:
Monday, November 11 (Virtual) and
Tuesday, November 12 (In Person)
All three divisions will hold conferences on the same days to condense time away from work for parents. Conference sign up information will be shared via email on Monday, October 28.
Grade 5 Bridging update:As part of our ongoing effort to support Grade 5 students in their transition to middle school, this year we have created a bridge experience to make this shift smoother. Now, as we reach Week 7 of the school year, we are adjusting our schedule to better serve students. To decrease the number of daily transitions and consolidate the extra math and literacy time, Grade 5 students will have an additional session of math and literacy on Wednesdays instead of attending their usual specials. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, students will continue their regular rotation of classes.
Thank you for your support as we refine the schedule to maximize its benefits for our students!

From the High School Counseling Office
We regularly meet with each grade level to go over topics that will help them with their success at ASH & beyond. This week we met with Grade 9 students for an individual counselor check-in during their scheduled PE class time. Last week we introduced Grade 10 to MaiaLearning–the platform we are using to coordinate information with students regarding college applications, college visits, and more. On Thursday we will meet with Grade 11 students to set up their profiles in MaiaLearning to prepare for the college application process next year. We also met with Grade 12 students to review deadlines for those applying to USA universities with early applications.
Parents of Grade 12 students: Please check in with your child to make sure that they are on top of their deadlines for college applications–especially if they are applying to universities in the UK or if they are applying for early-decision/early-action universities in the US.
If you wish to meet with your child’s counselor, please email us to set up an appointment.
