Meet the 2024 Scotus Central Catholic homecoming court (2024)

Twelve students have been named to the 2024 homecoming court at Scotus Central Catholic.

Coronation will be Friday, Aug. 30, after the football game. Scotus will be hosting Aquinas Catholic for its homecoming game at 7 p.m.

The queen candidates are:

Emma Brezenski is the daughter of Jon and Kristie Brezenski. She is being escorted by Fernando Almazon, son of Jesus and Erica Almazon. Emma is involved in HOSA, basketball, soccer, and Godteens. Emma works as a lifeguard at the Pawnee Plunge and enjoys spending time working with young girls on their soccer skills. Awards and honors she has received include Straight-A Honor Roll, Academic All-State, Academic All-Conference, First Team All-Nebraska, First Team Super-State, First Team Class B, and holds two school records in soccer. She enjoys going on walks, cooking, hanging out with friends, and spending money on TikTok Shop. After graduation, she plans to attend South Dakota State University to play soccer and major in nursing.

Mallory Dreesen is the daughter of Mike and Kim Dreesen. Mallory is being escorted by Sam Olmer, son of Kevin and Dainelle Olmer. She is active in National Honor Society, Campus Ministry, HOSA, is the secretary of attendance for Student Council, and plays volleyball and basketball. She is also involved in the GodTeens program, has attended JC camp and Steubenville, and is a member of the youth group “Legacy.” Awards Mallory has received include A Honor Roll, All-Conference volleyball, Holiday Basketball All-Tournament Team, and the Eleanor M. Loshbaugh Scholarship. She enjoys playing taxi for her younger siblings, getting Broken Mug with her friends, and spending money on unnecessary things. After graduation, Mallory plans on attending a two- or four-year college, majoring in athletic training or physical therapy.

Sofia Karges is the daughter of Nathan and Ashley Karges. Sofia is being escorted by Brody Splittgerber, son of Kelly and Cassandra Splittgerber. Sofia is a letter winner in cross country, basketball, soccer, and is a co-captain of the cheer team. She is the Student Council President, NHS Officer, and is a member of Campus Ministry, Revolution and Legacy. Sofia is actively involved at St. Bon’s, is a JC Camp counselor, and participates in GodTeens and Steubenville. Awards and honors include Straight-A Honor Roll, Academic All-Conference in cross country, team captain in basketball and soccer, and three-time All-American cheerleader. Sofia enjoys hanging out with friends and family, taking pretty sunset pictures, exploring dirt roads, and blasting music in her car. After graduation, she plans to attend a four-year college.

Meah Sackett is the daughter of Tyler and Sarah Kracke. Meah is being escorted by Callen Jedlicka, son of Matt and Sharee Jedlicka. Meah participates in soccer, volleyball, National Honor Society, and the Godteens program. Awards and honors she has received include volleyball Academic All-Conference, volleyball Academic All-State, All-State Honorable Mention in volleyball, letters in both soccer and volleyball, and has maintained her spot on A Honor Rolls throughout her academic career. In her free time, Meah enjoys going out with friends, playing pickleball, waterskiing and relaxing at the lake, shopping, and spending time with her family. After graduation Meah plans to study drafting and design.

Abby Schumacher is the daughter of Timothy and Colleen Schumacher. She is escorted by Austin Long, son of Cliff Long and Shannon Kasik. Abby is involved in National Honor Society, campus ministry, golf, band, One Act, speech, the GodTeens program, journalism, 4-H, and has attended JC camp and Steubenville conferences. Awards and honors she has received include, earning a letter in golf, band, One Act, and speech, A Honor Roll, Academic All-Conference, 4-H Diamond Clover Award, and participating in state golf and speech. Abby enjoys country swing dancing with her friends on the weekends and jamming out in her bright blue Chevy trailblazer. After high school, she plans on attending a four-year university to major in sonography or pediatric nursing.

Quinn VunCannon is the daughter of Mike and Jenni VunCannon. Quinn is being escorted by Madden Saenz, son of Luke and Lisa Saenz. She is the president of National Honor Society, a member of HOSA, GodTeens, the VolunTEEN program at Columbus Community Hospital, a blood drive organizer, a letter winner in basketball and golf, and works at Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Awards and honors she has received include Straight-A Honor Roll, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-State, the Mother Teresa Service Award, and a captain of the basketball team. In her free time, she likes to read, hang out with friends, take naps, and beat her dad at golf. After graduation she plans to attend a four-year university and major in pre-pharmacy.

The king candidates are:

Joaquin Azurday Castellanos is the son of Juan Ramon Azurduy and Lorena Castellanos. Originally from Bolivia, he is an exchange student, living with the Jill and Steven Ramaekers family. Joaquin is a member of the tennis team, and was ranked in tennis in Bolivia. In his free time, he teaches tennis to children, allowing him to give back to his community. Joaquin has a passion for music, particularly the piano, which he has been playing for several years. Joaquin plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he will major in computer science and pursue his interest in technology. While his main focus is on sports, music, and academics, he also enjoys cooking as a way to relax and be creative in his free time.

Ian Karges is the son of Nathan and Ashley Karges. He is an NHS officer, a member of Campus Ministry, a Drum Major, a letter winner in cross country, basketball, track, soccer, band, jazz band, one act, and is in the final stages of becoming an Eagle Scout. He is a member of Revolution, Legacy, and attended the 2024 Cornhusker Boys’ State. Some awards he has received include All Conference for Academic Excellence, Nebraska State Colleges Multi-Activity Student Award, All Conference Band. Ian is in the GodTeens program, has attended Steubenville Conferences, and the National Eucharistic Congress. He likes to camp, play cards, or just hang out with friends. Ian plans to attend a four-year college and major in engineering.

Cohen Pelan is the son of Jay and Tina Pelan. He is an NHS officer, Student Council Secretary of Minutes, a member of Legacy and HOSA, and a letter winner in football, basketball, and track and field. Awards and honors he has received include Straight-A Honor Roll, Academic All-State, Academic All-Conference, Holiday Basketball Tournament First Team, captain of the football and basketball teams, and a two-time State Track and Field medalist. He has been involved with St. Isidore’s GodTeens, Steubenville Youth Conference, JC Camp, Youth Leadership Columbus, Big Pals Little Pals, and is currently employed at Gene Steffy Ford as a car detailer. Cohen enjoys watching NBA basketball with his brothers and golfing with friends and family. He plans on attending a four-year college and major in pre-medicine.

Jacob Rother is the son of John and Stephany Rother. He is a member of National Honor Society, One Act crew, and is a letter winner in tennis and soccer. Awards and honors he has received include Straight-A Honor Roll and Academic All-State. Jacob is a four-year member of the GodTeens program and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. He likes to golf, fish, and play spikeball. He plans to attend a four-year university and major in mechanical engineering.

Luke Wemhoff is the son of Ed and Lisa Wemhoff. Luke is active in football, track and field, and a member of the One Act crew. He is a two-time state qualifier in track, and a captain on the football team. He serves his community by being a helper of the Big Pals Little Pals nonprofit organization, and he works for Granville Custom Homes. Awards he has received include Straight-A Honor Roll, Academic All-Conference, and Class C All State Honorable Mention in football. Luke is active in his faith through GodTeens, attending many Steubenville Conferences, a Catholic men's retreat, and has been a JC camp counselor for two years. In his free time he enjoys tubing, spikeball, playing poker, and hanging out with friends and family. After high school Luke plans to attend UNL to study pre-med or engineering.

Max Wemhoff is the son of Joe and Amy Wemhoff. He is active in football, basketball, and golf. He is a part of the St. Bonaventure GodTeens program, has attended the Steubenville Youth Conference, helps out with the Big Pals Little Pals nonprofit organization, and in the summer works as a lifeguard at the Pawnee Plunge. Awards and honors he has received are A Honor Roll, and letters in football, basketball, and track. He has also received All Conference in basketball and All Conference Honorable Mention in football. Max’s hobbies include golfing, reading, long naps with his dog Charlie, and watching "Love Island" with the boys. After graduation Max plans on attending a four-year college where he will major in construction management.
